The ever popular Kitchen Sanitarium is one of the best known vegetarian restaurants in Brisbane, pioneering the Australian health food industry and creating dishes to please even the meat-lovers. As its name hints, the company running the restaurant is none other than Australia’s own Sanitarium, the ones best known for Weetbix and their line of successful breakfast products.
The restaurant is located on Eagle Street, wedged between the Brisbane River and City. The venue is nice and open, with friendly service and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Head chef, Steve Warden-Hutton, has been trained at Brisbane’s best restaurants, and cooks with a philosophy to use the best possible produce and to respect each ingredient. He aims to create dishes that reflect simplicity, whilst balancing flavour and texture. One of the standout principles in Kitchen Sanitarium is the theme of healthy and sustainable living, where all ingredients are sourced from within a 200km radius of Brisbane CBD, wherever possible. Overall, Kitchen Sanitarium is a great organic and wholefood experience.

Warm Vegetable Salad
The Warm Vegetable Salad is a beautifully presented and colourful arrangement full of great winter produce. Comprised of roasted fennel, pickled baby carrot, kipfler potatoes, beetroot and fior di latte (similar to mozzarella cheese) and delicately dressed in a herb vinaigrette, the dish was a fine example of simplicity, health and visual and taste appeal.
Daily Chef’s Curry
For those after a heartier meal, the Daily Chef’s Curry with Jasmine Rice presents a truly filling alternative. Today’s curry bowl featured Yellow Lentil and Cauliflower, and is smothered with a delicious sweet coconut curry sauce that is soaked up wonderfully by the rice.
Fried Haloumi Salad
This salad is a beautiful combination of heirloom tomatoes, avocado and olive tapenade with a lemon and basil vinaigrette. As a whole, the dish looked really fresh and appetising with three large pieces of perfectly cooked haloumi and a refreshing tomato based salad underneath. The acidity of the tomato salad worked really well with the sweet and chewy haloumi cheese.
