Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – a practice highly regarded in Eastern society.
Crows Nest has numerous cafes in the area, and all are popular, but there is one that stands out from the rest – Fresh. Their philosophy is ‘you eat well, you feel well’ and Yummy Times wholeheartedly agrees. Owner Phil Carey is passionate about healthy eating, current health food trends and the medical reports behind them, all of which influence his menu. Using organic produce, the majority of items have been prepared on the premises or are locally sourced, and the menu will change to incorporate fresh seasonal ingredients. All special diets can be catered for and are highlighted on the menu, e.g. Gluten free, Wheat Free, Dairy Free and Vegetarian.
Fresh’s vision of providing ‘great coffee and pure food’ will have you coming back for more! There is free 2 hour parking in the council car park on Holterman Street - only a few minutes’ walk to Fresh.
The menu offers a range of healthy options as well as the usual hearty breakfasts and a kids menu too.
Yummy Times’ Recommended Dishes
Breakfast: Avocado and feta cheese on rye with slow roasted tomatoes, house made granola, Fresh’s Big Breakfast (available gluten-free or vegetarian) No extra charge for Gluten-Free breads!
This dish is a good combination of carbohydrate, protein and fiber. The rye bread and granola, as low glycemic index (GI) choices, break down slowly in our body, and hence to stabilize your blood-sugar and provide sustained energy to keep you satisfied. Together with avocado and tomato, this dish also fills you up with a good source of soluble and non-soluble fiber. Spreading the toast with avocado not just gives you a good taste, but also provides you with monounsaturated fats, lots of vitamins and antioxidants for heart health. And last, but not the least, feta cheese is a good source of protein and calcium, but if there is reduced fat option available that would even be better.
Coffee: Chai-latte is made from REAL tea & spices, with NO-SUGAR! No extra charge for Bonsoy milk
The no-sugar option is really good to cut down your daily energy intake. And if you can, swap the full cream milk by skim milk can further help saving about 60Cal and 7g fat per cup (230mL).
